The US Green Building Council (USGBC) was organized to provide the design and building industry with the tools necessary to design, build and operate buildings that deliver high economic and environmental performance inside and out.

Their work is codified in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program of building certification. The LEED certification program uses a rating system for sustainable building design and for environmentally conscious building operations.
