This $31.4 million project was the first of three Cancer Centers for Excellence and was managed by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. The construction and renovation of the cancer center consisted of the existing 9th and 10th floors, totaling 64,000 SF. All project work was completed while maintaining continuous operation of the active hospital. Each stage of the cancer center’s planning and development involved the expert advice and direction of cancer patients, scientists, physicians, and other caregivers. (IE)

Providing Integrated Professional Services

This facility houses the Forensic Services (FS) program for the Georgia Department of Human Resources. FS is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and operates this Maximum Security Forensic Unit, the first facility of its kind in the state. The $17.8 million building provides state-of-the-art facilities and a therapeutic environment for the forensic clients and staff. Clients are generally referred for psychiatric evaluation and treatment from various components of the state’s criminal justice and corrections systems. (IE)

The new $222 million, 500,000 SF multi-story high-rise building consists of laboratories, small animal vivarium, conference facilities, and the Graduate School of Biological Sciences. The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is in the top quarter of health sciences graduate schools in the United States. Over 1,300 scientists have received their training at the GSBS since its beginning. The school features integrated programs in cancer treatment, clinical trials, education programs and cancer prevention. (IE)
